Three steps to a cozier home
Work from the feeling you want, not from a shopping list. These three steps go in the order that usually changes a room the most for the least money.
Step 1: Fix the light
Light is the cheapest big change. Swap in warm bulbs, turn off the overhead light in the evening and add lamps at different heights.

- Cozy lighting buying guide, for lamp, bulb and dimmer types
Step 2: Add texture and a calm palette
If the room has enough things but still feels flat, the missing piece is usually texture and color balance, not more objects.
- What textures make a home feel cozier?
- What colors make a home feel warmer without being dark?
- 60/30/10 color palette planner
- Why a room still does not feel cozy after you decorate it
Step 3: Pick a room, then set up the seasons
Finish one room before the next, then keep the home fresh with a small rotation kit instead of new decor.
- A cozier living room without clutter
- A warmer, calmer bedroom
- Shifting a home for the seasons
- Seasonal decor swap checklist
All of the planners and checklists are on the tools page. This is general decorating information, so check your lease and use a licensed electrician for any wiring.
